The Pöstli – Ristorante Garni Post
Ristorante Garni Post
Reopening: 17 April 2025
Just a few steps from the old Lovero Bridge – where the stream separates the Swiss Val Bregaglia from the Italian Val Chiavenna – lies the Ristorante Garni Post, a meeting place for locals and a guesthouse for visitors since its construction in 1882. The property features a terrace, a bar and a dining room on the ground floor, as well as five rooms with shared bathrooms on the first floor. Prices range from CHF 60 to CHF 150 and include an Italian breakfast.
Until a few years ago, the popular hotel was run by owners Angela and Davide Gianotti. In 2021 and 2022, the young Bregaglia innkeeper Alice Huber took over as host. During the 2024 summer season, the motto was “Pop-up Pöstli”. Stefan Keller reopened the house with limited opening hours and a reduced programme of cultural and culinary events.
The new owner, Fondazione ProPosta, is planning a renovation for autumn 2025. Until then, Das Pöstli – Ristorante Garni Post will once again be run by host Stefan Keller. The rooms will be continuously available from 17 April to 31 October 2025. From Pentecost onwards, the bar/osteria will be open from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and often beyond these hours. Until Pentecost, local resident Esther Schön will manage the bar/osteria at irregular intervals.
The concept “Sleeping in Switzerland – breakfast in Italy” will also apply in 2025: Bar Rossi, just a 100-metre walk away, serves cappuccino and brioche early in the morning.
